Review of Kent's World Weather Day on 21st May

World Weather Day proved to be an exciting experience for many of our International and Kentish Students. This was the first time that many of them had taken part in a flash meeting and the fact that technology worked, was quite miraculous to many of them.
We've plenty to learn from this day and we need to think about how we manage flash meetings with different time zones, languages, band widths and ages of students.
The sound was very poor during the live meetings from Kenya, but on play back was very clear. Brook School and Peponi School in Kenya, did a one way flash.meeting where Brook asked the questions and then sent the link to Kenya and they replied..that showd great initiative.

Szkola 707 from Poland, had a flash meeting the previous week, whilst Mrs Cotton was at the school and that worked very well.

Despite technical hitches, overall the WEATHER was discussed by all, with the Kenyans keen to find out if we had very much snow! ZS Rudna school in Czech Republic, asked about the temperature and the seasons.
We found out that Kenya has more or less the same hours of dark and light all the year round, due to the fact that the Equator runs through their country.

We saw art work of the weather , heard songs linked to the weather and countries had their flags and also artefacts to show.

We're doing this again on the 3rd of June but in a more structured way with only 2 or 3 groups, linking at the same time.

The Year 6 students at Peponi School, in Nairobi, were learning about the crops that grow in Kenya. They were learning how important they are for the future of the country.
They grow vegetables like, green beans, small sweet corn, sugar snap peas and most of these are exported to countries like Great Britain.
They also have huge flower farms, with polythene tunnels to protect the roses from the heavy rain. These roses also come to the UK.
They also have Coffee and Tea Plantations and we've powerpoints of these to

Year 4AK have been busy taking photos of the school Weather Vane and then sketching the Vane.
They have also been taking photos of the clouds in the sky and trying to imagine what pictures they could see in them. They worked in pairs to produce pastel images of what they saw in the clouds and wrote some similes to go with it.
Take a look at the work they've done over the last two weeks. They also recorded their similes on the 2Connect program and audacity and some of them have put their weather reports on superclubsplus.
